The modern game of golf originated in fifteenth century Scotland, and has since developed into a fun pastime for some, and serious sport for others. In Suffolk we are lucky to have a number of golf courses, so whether you’re a keen golfer or like to try you hand now and then there are lots of different places across the county you can play a spot of golf.
Newton Green Golf Club
On the edge of Constable Country you can find Newton Green Golf Club. The 18 hole course has a rich history – with nine of the holes laid out over a century ago by none other than James Braid, whilst another nine holes were to the course added a mere 22 years ago. With offers on throughout the year, come along to Newton Green to play – an ideal course for beginners and experienced golfers alike. The clubhouse was opened in 1981 and has been developed with bar and catering facilities. Visitors are welcome and there are several membership options to choose from so that you are sure to find one that suits you best. There is also a Pro Shop onsite which is well stocked with leading brands, ranging from grips to bags. For those who are new to golf, or would like to hone their skills, Newton Green Golf Club also offers tuition which caters for all.
Stoke by Nayland Golf Club
At the Stoke by Nayland Golf Club there are two championship courses to play – The Gainsborough Course and The Constable Course. Named after famous painters who made this beautiful part of the world their home and the subject of their art, you will be swept away by the stunning countryside surrounding the courses. Created in the early 1970’s, the two courses incorporate lakes, streams and woodland. Both courses are 18 holes and the changing terrain provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities. The onsite Pro Shop stocks the latest in equipment, clothing and accessories and you can also make use of the buggy hire to add to the convenience of your day’s golf. There is the option to hire clubs if you don’t have your own. Stoke by Nayland also has a driving range with 22 covered bays – a great way to practice your swing. Visitors are always welcome – simply book your tee time then come along to play. With reasonable green fees and membership options available, be sure to add Stoke by Nayland to your list of golf courses to visit!
